Feature Settings and Symbology

Feature settings and symboloy are defined in a variety of panes when the feature is selected in the Import process. The settings for point, linear and polygon features includes: Spatial Critera, Import Parameters, Feature Parameters, and Feature Symbology.

Spatial Criteria - Defines the spatial area to import.

Import Parameters - Specifies the location and name of the file to be imported.

Feature Parameters - Defines feature name and enables you to specify a Where clause to limit the incoming features based on property values. Refer to the To Search the Data Source before Importing topic. If you are importing into a design file opened with an OpenCities Map geospatial project, the feature can be mapped to a feature definition from the project. Only features of the same type will be availalble to choose from. Mapped features will obtain their symbology from the feature definition specified in the geospatial project. The Feature, Cell, Text and Polygon Symbology panes will not appear for mapped features.

Feature Symbology - Provides settings to define the level, color, transparency, weight, line style, priority and element class . If you are importing into a design file opened with an OpenCities Map geospatial project, the features symbology is set by the feature definition in the geospatial project. In this case, the Feature Symbology pane will not display.

Point and Polygon features include additional settings to accommodate the feature type.

Points - A point feature can be specified as a Point type, Cell type or Text type in the Feature Parameters pane. Feature symbology can be defined for all three point types. In addition to the Feature Symbology pane, a Cell Symbology pane will display if the point type is set to Cell and a Text Symbology pane will display if the point type is set to Text.

The Cell and Text symbology panes provide options to specify the Angle, X Scale and Y Scale for the imported features. The values for these settings can be entered as a:

  • Session value - the active angle and active scale
  • Feature property - the value of the property
  • Explicit value - the entered value

Text symbology includes the ability to define a PBA (Property Based Annotation) Expression. This allows you to place specific property values as the text string. The selected property can be picked from the list of available properties or be keyed-in inside of square brackets. The name of the property is case sensitive. Multiple properties can be put on separate lines by using \010 to indicate a new line. The PBA expression can include normal text.

Polygons - Polygon features include Polygon Symbology to define the Fill Mode and Fill Color.
